Peace That Passes Understanding

Struggling

This was the daily devotional that I receive from my church, Broadway Church of Christ, this morning. I share this scripture with most of the folks that I minister to. I hope you will be blessed by the Word of God and Bill’s comments!

Philippians 4:6-7:  “Do not be anxious about anything. Instead, in every situation, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, tell your requests to God.  And the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.”

There are certainly things to be concerned about such as a relationship with a spouse or child, health issues, financial troubles, and etc.  Paul, the author of this text, had his own struggles:  beaten, shipwrecked, imprisoned, and etc.   As far as we know, Paul lived at peace during his struggles because of his trust in God.  Being a believer does not remove all the struggles and concerns of life no matter how faithful we may be.  Finding peace that we cannot create in the midst of a difficult and continuing struggle is the peace that surpasses our understanding.  Through God we can find peace where peace should be impossible.  We worship a God who can replace anxiety with peace.

Possible prayer for today:  “Father, I seek your peace in the midst of … (identify your struggle).”
