Kylie was just taken into the Operating Room.
The donor will go into surgery around 9am. We should have visual confirmation around 10am.
Once we have visual confirmation they will fly the organ to Kylie. While the organ is in transit they will time it precisely so that Kylie is being opened and ready to receive the lungs as soon as they arrive. The less time the organ is out of body the better.
Because of HIPPA I do not know much about the donor. I do know that the donor is O blood type which is compatible with all blood types. The only other information I was given is that this was brain death and not cardiac death.
The surgery will take about 12 hours. They are going to cut Kylie open horizontally instead of vertically so they are able to get to both lungs and the heart in the same surgery.
The valve that they have to cut to remove the old lungs and then sew the new lungs to is only 3 cm wide.
According to the surgeon this is the most complicated part. It has to be done perfectly.
Kylie will be on bypass for the surgery and possibly ECMO.
They will also stop Kylie’s heart to repair the two holes.
I have not slept from being so nervous. I just wanted to hold Kylie as long as I could. I’m shaking while I’m typing this update.
I don’t even know how to put into words how I am feeling. I don’t think I’ve ever been this scared.
As cliche as this may sound, the one thing that this experience has taught me is that all those minor problems that we all experience in everyday life, they don’t matter. I know they feel big but they are so small compared to what really matters. Hug your kids and loved ones as much as you can, cherish them, don’t take them for granted, at the end of the day if they are safe and healthy that is ALL THAT MATTERS. 
Please, please, please pray that surgery goes well. Pray for the surgeons and medical staff, and most importantly pray for the donor’s family.
