From Daniel’s dad:
“Daniel has had a good week. His symptoms remain minimal and manageable with medication. Although his appetite has decreased, he is still eating enough to avoid a feeding tube. We are very thankful for these answered prayers. Each day, he maintains a great attitude and rarely complains.
Daniel has needed platelet transfusions every couple of days and blood transfusions about every 5-6 days. Tomorrow (Day +10) will be the first complete blood count test since the bone marrow transplant. The chemo and radiation have completely wiped out his red and white blood cells (RBC/WBC) and platelets. His transfusions have not included WBC. The doctors will begin looking for the growth of new WBCs to track the success of the transplant. Please continue to pray for a successful transplant and that his body accepts it as his own.
On Thursday, he completed his first marathon (26.2 miles) since being admitted two weeks ago. The doctors and nurses made the event a special moment for us, especially Daniel. You can see his final lap >here<. His energy is incredible. Today, he is starting on mile 30 and is determined to complete a second marathon.
Daniel has been keeping busy throughout the day with dedicated time for school, games, exercise, reading, and playing video games with his brother and cousins.
Granvie visited this week and had a great time playing games with Daniel. He has developed some clever strategies for playing Uno and Skip-Bo and is hard to beat.
Tomorrow is not just Day +10. It is also September 8th, 2024. Ten years ago, I married the love of my life. Ashly has been the best partner and companion. We have faced many life challenges together, but our relationship and commitment to each other have not faltered. She is an incredible mother to our children, a wonderful wife, and my best friend. I love you, Ashee. A hospital room next to our baby is not the tenth anniversary I had in mind, but when we get through this, we will celebrate properly.
Thank you for continuing to pray and support us through this journey.
