Update on Kylie (from Sunday)
Good Morning Houston!
I swear to you once we landed Kylie perked up and has been more like herself again. It was so weird. She must be a Houston girl at heart.
Transplant team came by early this morning with a plan.
Kylie was placed back on ventilator for the plane ride and is currently doing well on cpap but they want to try to see how she does with high flow oxygen. So we will try that sometime today.
They think the reason why she is starting to do better respiratory wise is because of the high dose steroids she was put on a few days ago. So that’s good news.
Now the not so good news.
They are going to try to get Kylie scheduled for surgery tomorrow (maybe Tuesday) to open her up and take a look at the lungs and then get a larger piece of the lung tissue. They will try to go in through the back. She will have chest tubes placed (hopefully only one).
As of right now the team thinks it’s the AMR rejection and chronic rejection progressing but we need to see how much and try to slow it down.
Unfortunately I was informed that graft failure is inevitable (which can mean another transplant) BUT if we act quickly and aggressively we can slow it down.
The chemo drug she has been receiving did its job and eliminated all her B cells but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to slow the AMR completely.
It’s a lot of medical talk but there is a few donor antibodies that are still very strong.
They dilute it in stages to see how strong and these were diluted at the strongest level and still showed up which tells us they are strong antibodies.
I hope all that made sense.
Please pray that we have caught this early enough to treat and that the treatment isn’t too hard on Kylie’s
body!
